October is a month full of Fall festivities!! From seasonal wine releases like Celebration Spice to Trolley Tours and Special Harvest Savings there is always something occuring at the winery!

Vineyard Update

This year was the earliest harvest ever! All grapes will be picked by October 7th.  Expect an EXCELLENT vintage from 2012.  Warm summer temperatures with 20+ days above 90 degrees, enabled the grapes to ripen 2-3 weeks earlier than normal harvest.  The flavors in the fermenting wines are unbelieveable.  So mark your calendar in the spring for the release of the great vintage of 2012!

Ferrante's Cask Red 1012

     The Cask Project began as an idea in 2010 to have a continual red blend from the Grand River Valley .  Each year a percentage of the wine will be bottled and distributed to make room for the next years harvest.  The date on the bottle represents the year it began "10" and the year it was bottled "12".  Each winery used a different 10,000 gallon oak barrel with vinifera grapes from their farm. 

Ferrante's Cask Red is a blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, & Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak.  Be sure to stop in sample this wine!

Recipe of the Month

Ferrante’s Grand River Valley Riesling Bread Pudding


8 ounces French bread, torn into small pieces, about 5 cups                    

1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree

2 ¾ cup half & half                                                                                             

3 tablespoons melted butter

¼ cup Ferrante’s Grand River Valley Riesling                              

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3 Large eggs                                                                                                         

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

2/3 cup granulated sugar                                                                                   

½  teaspoon ground ginger

2/3 cup brown sugar                                                                                           

1 teaspoon vanilla


Butter an 11x7 inch baking dish.  Heat oven to 350˚.

In a large bowl, cover the torn bread with the half & half and Ferrante’s Grand River Valley Riesling and set aside.

In another bowl, combine, eggs, sugars, pumpkin, melted butter, spices, and vanilla.  Blend well.  Pour pumpkin mixture over soaked bread and stir to blend. 

Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish. 

Bake 50 to 55 minutes, or until set.

Served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!  Pairs perfectly with a glass of Ferrante’s Riesling wine!

Join the wineries of the Grand River Valley for an anfternoon filled with fine wines paried with dishes perfect for your Thanksgiving Dinner!

The cost is $5 at each winery and includes wine samples, food pairings and recipes.  Noon-5pm, No reservations necessary.  Bring a canned food item into each winery and receive $1 off your ticket price.  All dontations go to local food banks.
